A rare and fascinating topic: Professor Harlow Robinson will discuss "The Russian Parsifal?: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and The Invisible City of Kitezh."
He will focus on Wagner's decisive influence on Russian composers, including Rimsky-Korsakov, and especially on Rimsky-Korsakov's 1905 opera: The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia. He will discuss audio and visual examples, including several from the 2012 De Nederlandse Opera production of the opera.
Professor Robinson is Professor Emeritus, Department of History, Northeastern University, with a specialty in Russian studies. The presentation will be introduced by Scott Carlton, Artistic Director of WSNY's Singer Programs.
