MARTHA’S CHOICE MARKETPLACE
Choice Dignity Relationships
Thank you for your interest in learning more about and supporting Martha’s Choice Marketplace. Through the generosity of donors and volunteers, Catholic Social Services has redesigned its well-known and widely utilized Montgomery County Family Services food cupboard into a “Martha’s Choice Marketplace.” This visionary food distribution model fosters a friendly and welcoming environment that promotes warm relationships between patrons, staff and volunteers. The choice marketplace ensures greater equity in how donated food resources are shared with patrons, while providing patrons with greater choice and easier access to healthy food options based on their particular needs, culture and preferences. The marketplace replaces the perceived stigma of needing food assistance with an experience that maintains the dignity of our patrons, as we respectfully invite them to share from the storehouse of our abundance. We are also a point of entry for people in need of various social services, so patrons of Martha’s Choice Marketplace can easily connect with parenting programs, seek support for paying utilities and so much more. This new way of accompanying those we serve allows for personalized attention that empowers, educates, and cultivates vital life skills in the hopes of improving access and opening opportunities for a brighter tomorrow for those we serve.
