Deepening Our Faith, Strengthening Our Hearts, and Transforming Our Minds!
October 11-13, 2019
Each year we look forward to having our faith deepened, hearts strengthened, and minds transformed as we fellowship with other men. Our retreat takes place up at beautiful Lake Arrowhead. We have homes reserved close by one another and the Lake.
We meet for dinner on Friday night at the main house. Following dinner we gather for a discussion led by our guest speaker, Rev. Chris Pritchett. Saturday morning after breakfast we meet for worship and discussion. Free time is Saturday afternoon. After dinner at the main house, there is a time of worship and discussion with our guest speaker. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and concludes with communion. Then back to your house to clean up and pack. You are on your own for lunch on the way back to Laguna Beach.
Chris’ passion and life commitment come from a simple opening line of a Mary Oliver poem: My work is loving the world. A native of Southern California, Chris experienced both the joys and thrills of a playful childhood, the traumas of a deeply broken adolescence, and the ongoing redemption of Christ in every aspect of his life. Trained as a Presbyterian Pastor (PCUSA), Chris has served churches in Southern California and Washington, most recently as senior pastor of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He is currently serving as parish associate at Summerland Presbyterian Church and serving on the board of the Henri Nouwen Society while leading the Pro Deo Foundation. Chris holds degrees from Westmont College, Fuller and Princeton Seminaries and is currently working on his doctorate in global leadership from Portland Seminary. He is interested in social entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as the practice of institutional leadership as a necessary vehicle for the transformation of lives and the common good of society. Chris met his wife, Devon, at Westmont, and together they enjoy an active lifestyle with their three children, Hannah, Abby, and Lucas. They currently live in Carpinteria, CA. His other pursuits include driving kids to soccer fields, surfing, hiking, traveling, Foundation Training, contemplative practice, enjoying a local craft IPA, making cold-processed artisan soap, and brewing Kombucha.
Activities available during our Saturday afternoon free time include mountain activities: hiking, walking in the village, biking, reading, napping, a game of cards, various field games on the nearby grassy knoll, and fishing (supply your own bike and fishing gear).
Registration includes: Shared room for two nights, two breakfasts, one lunch and two dinners, as well as all retreat materials.
Final Information: will be sent to you two weeks before we leave.
