For more than forty years, BLOCS has provided educational opportunities for children ages pre-K to 12th grade throughout the Philadelphia five county area and across the state of Pennsylvania. Viewed as the premiere scholarship organization in PA, BLOCS partners with more than 100 Archdiocesan and more than 300 private Catholic and non-Catholic schools to provide over 16,000 scholarships each year to families in need. BLOCS is the largest scholarship organization in the state. We have raised nearly $50M in tuition assistance in FY20.
BLOCS recognizes the organization's tremendous growth over the past several years. We are proud to maintain a GuideStar Platinum rating - the agency's highest profile level for nonprofits. Platinum ratings move beyond the organization's basic operational and financial efficiency and transparency metrics to demonstrate their commitment to measuring progress and results by delivering critical financial information that is important to our generous donors.
The creation of the BLOCS Annual Giving Fund allows for a simple and inclusive donor-centric model, in which members of the community can support BLOCS' mission to create scholarship opportunities for families seeking a faith and values-based education for their child.
The BLOCS Annual Giving Fund also provides a necessary pipeline to supplement the organization's Emergency Scholarship Fund - designed to provide one-time tuition aid to families who have experienced a significant life event (illness, job loss, etc.), thereby severely inhibiting their ability to continue paying school tuition.
In addition, gifts to the Annual Giving Fund will help support Philadelphia Archdiocese schools who currently do not receive BLOCS funding as well as to aid in the nonprofit's Matching Program, which incentivizes Catholic grade schools to amplify their own fundraising efforts by qualifying for additional funds once they have reached a threshold of financial support.
The average cost of tuition to send one child to a Philadelphia Archdiocese grade school is approximately $5,000 annually.
On average it will cost twice that amount - approximately $10,000, for a full year's tuition to a Philadelphia Archdiocese high school.
Yes, I'd like to support BLOCS' mission to provide families access to a safe, faith and values-based education for their child with my gift of:
