In this workshop we will collaboratively examine the growing trend of reclaiming the naturalness of our death processes including embracing the dying journey, home vigils, family directed rituals and funerals, and options for green/environmentally friendly burials.

Full Course Description:

In this introductory workshop, together we discover what it means to reclaim the dying process, death rituals, and care and disposition of the body in today's world. We will briefly explore the intersectionality of the historical, social, cultural, political, spiritual, and ethical contexts that influence our views of death and dying. We will have an opportunity to reflect on and tell stories of our own experiences with death and dying. We will explore emerging/returning practices of keeping people at home during the dying process, home vigils, family/friends directed funerals/rituals, and options for green/environmentally friendly burials. We will end with a variety of local and national resources (organizations, websites, videos, articles) for those who wish to explore this topic further.
