Professional musician and NDSU professor, Jason Boynton, was disheartened to discover that Fargo Public Schools' students had incurred school lunch debt of $26,000 during the 2018-19 school year. Boynton talked to fellow musician Russell Pfaff, who suggested a benefit show, and within an hour several bands agreed to donate their time and talents for the cause. After partnering with Co-producer Kari Lugo of Northern PR & Marketing, they created LUNCH AID: Fargo Bands for School Kids.
We are proud to announce that the 2018-2019 school lunch debt held by Fargo Public Schools has been PAID IN FULL! Nearly $15,000 got turned over to collections and LUNCH AID raised nearly $20,000. That leaves another $5,000 in the Fargo Public Schools Foundation coffers! We will apply the balance to the 2019-2020 debt which is projected to be around $48,000. We must remain diligent in our fundraising efforts until big changes occur at the state level.
Thank you to ALL who donated time or money, shared a post, spread the word, or raised funds! Thank you FARGO BANDS! Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi and Business Manager Jackie Gapp from Fargo Public Schools for working with us to get the collections policy changed.
