Finishing Well Where You Are: Transitioning gracefully from one church to the next is essential for the health of you and your current congregation. Brett will offer strategies for concluding with integrity, fostering healthy closure, and leaving a lasting positive impact.

Preparing for the New Church: There are things you can do right now in the time leading up to your move that will make a huge impact on your ability to hit the ground running. Brett will guide you through this advance work to set the stage for success.

Getting to Know Staff, Leaders, Congregation, Community: Building meaningful relationships is foundational to effective ministry.  Brett has specific practices to connect authentically with the people of your new church and community.

Getting Down to Work: Brett will provide practical guidance on establishing priorities and navigating the initial challenges of ministry in a new context. You can expect to gain actionable strategies for building momentum for impactful ministry from day one.

Speaker Bio

Brett DeHart

Rev. Brett DeHart is completing his 21st year in pastoral ministry and preparing for a move from Augusta, Georgia to Sarasota, Florida this summer.  He is the author of five church resources on reaching new people, hospitality, and generosity. He is available for speaking, training, and coaching. His website is www.brettdehart.com.

He has led churches for over 20 years (worship attendance 25 to 1800). With a passion for reaching new people, churches he has pastored have launched Messy Church, Recovery Church, Dinner Church, and other Fresh Expressions.

Brett was recognized with the Harry Denman Evangelism Award in the North Georgia Conference UMC in 2023. While serving at Austell First UMC, the church won the city’s Business of the Year award for its service during the historic flood in 2009.

Before entering ministry, Brett spent six years as a sportscaster and ten years in business.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Florida State University and a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.

Brett and his wife, Candy, were high school sweethearts and have been married for more than 30 years and have two children in their 20s (a clinical dietician and a flight instructor).
