Spend a day at WEI 'walking on the wild side'. You'll learn about the medicinal plants that grow all around us and how to turn them into medicinal tinctures. We'll photo document the medicinal plants and create our own digital i.d. catalogue.

Full Course Description:

Join Angela Campbell, a practicing herbalist, reiki & crystal healer and professional gardener, for a day of plant medicine education She'll take everyone on an herb walk where she will highlight the medicinal plants growing at the Women's Environmental Institute. She'll discuss their medicinal qualities, botanical characteristics, what parts we use for medicine and strategies for general wellness. You will receive instruction on how to make tinctures with the above-ground portions of plants. After the tincture-making instructions, everyone will go out to make their own to take home. Throughout the day, we will document the medicinal plants with photos to create a digital i.d. catalogue, which will be emailed to every student for future reference. Although tinctures are traditionally made with alcohol, apple cider vinegar will also be provided as an alcohol-free option.

Course Objectives:

1) Medicinal plant identification & uses

2) Tincture making of above-ground portions of plants

3) Documentation of plants via photo library


This 3-credit class can be used by participants in WEI's Herbalism and Environmental Health Certificate Program. You can also register for this class without participating in WEI's Certificate Program.

Instructor Bio:

Angela Campbell is a healing-arts practitioner, educator and professional gardener. In her healing-arts practice she uses many tools, including Traditional Western Herbalism, Flower Essence Therapy, Reiki and Crystal Healing, to facilitate whole-body healing and wellness. She has studied and worked primarily in the San Francisco Bay area and the Twin Cities.
