Dr. Rod Capistran was a mathematics teacher at Fargo North High School from 2003 until his untimely death in 2020.  Dr. Capistran completed a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Iowa and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Capistran enjoyed teaching all areas of math and taught many sections of Geometry and Algebra at Fargo North High School.

In addition to his degrees in Mathematics, Dr. Capistran also had a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Bemidji State University and was an accomplished trombonist and vocalist. As an adult, Dr. Capistran attended the International Music Camp (IMC) for over ten years and was a valued member of the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra. He was also the trombonist in the Dakota Brass Quintet and sang bass in the FM Choral Artists. Dr. Capistran regularly attended the Fargo North High School music concerts and plays.

Two scholarships have been created by students to honor the memory of this well-respected teacher. A mathematics scholarship to support graduating seniors interested in pursuing a post-secondary education in math, and a music scholarship to support students who wish to attend the International Music Camp.
