Below are the requirements for becoming a certified SBCV DR Chaplain. You must attend an entire course for credit. 

To be credentialed as a Disaster Relief Chaplain you must complete the list below:

  • Complete Spiritual Care (2-hour course)
  • Assisting Individuals in Crisis (14-hour CISM course)
  • Southern Baptist Chaplain (8-hour course)
  • One Elective Course (Choose one)
    • Spiritual and Psychological First Aid (14-hour CISM course)
    • Emotional and Spiritual Care in Disasters (14-hour CISM course)
  • Letter of recommendation from you pastor
  • 3 letters of reference
  • Interview with the State Director or Chaplain Coordinator

The cost for each course is $30 which includes lunch, snacks and material.

Basic Chaplain Training - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Sat.) 


  • Sept. 17 (Sat.) SBDR Basic Chaplain, FBC, Charlottesville (Park Street)
  • Oct. 8 (Sat.) SBDR Basic Chaplain, First Baptist Church, Roanoke
