Arriving as the only student from her middle school, Gioy initially feared feeling out of place. At Trinity, she quickly discovered a community where she truly belonged. This environment empowered her to find her voice, transforming a hesitant freshman into a steadfast leader. Whether presiding over the Black Student Union or leading the Track and Field team as Captain, she has learned that true leadership is about being firm in her purpose. Supported by mentors like Coach Kim, she has embraced the rigors of the IB program while maintaining a 4.7 GPA. For Gioy, confidence means “never dimming [my] light. I am confident and comfortable in being 100% Gioy all the time.

At Trinity, Gioy didn’t just find a school; she found a deeper connection to
her namesake. By maintaining a positive outlook and offering encouraging
words to her peers, she has become a beacon for her community. “I pride
myself on being a joyful person and living up to my name by spreading joy
to everyone,” she says. Gioy’s journey proves that every path is a success
story when it is led with a joyful heart. Her next chapter begins this fall at the
University of Michigan!
