"Shamwari" - the word for friend in Shona. It's a term typically used when people want to get more and closer.
Maita
"Maita" - a word for thank you in Shona, literally meaning "you have done it".
Tatenda
"Tatenda" - another word for thank you in Shona, this one usually accompanied by slow rhythmic hand clapping and literally meaning "we have agreed or accepted".
Taguta
"Taguta" - a way of expressing satisfaction for what has been received, especially a meal, the equivalent of President idi Amin's infamous "Thank you Mrs. Queen, I am fed up"; always accompanied by slow rhythmic hand clapping.
Rusengwe
"Rusengwe" - thanks for this contribution, the one that each farmer makes annually to be carried to the land-spirit Mwari in the Matopos Hills in gratitude for rain and ecological balance.
vaShumi
"vaShumi" - this is what one calls to a person you pass who is working with the soil, it honors the work you see others do…
Tafara
"Tafara" - what you are going to say when you are going to have a celebration, basically "We're happy".
Chidawu
"chidawu" - the praise names associated with each particular clan, used endearingly and in honor to one's heritage in thanks of any serious contribution. No chidawu? Become a volunteer and you'll be given one.
Mukwasha
"Mukwasha" - a word for in-law referring to the bridegroom's family, always obliged to provide additional grateful payment's to the wife's family. a Shona proverb states "Mukwasha muonde" ("an in-law is like a fig tree").
Mambo
"Mambo!" - an honoric praise, the word for a chief that honours his land, dating back to the Rozvi Empire and maybe beyond.
Pungwe
"Pungwe!" - Zimbabwe Liberation War-speak for a celebratory motivational rally: think of it as being up all night shouting slogans, but in a very good way…
