River Oaks Square Arts Center is a contemporary visual arts and fine crafts center made up of resident artists working with a variety of media. The center is housed in two facilities, the historic Bolton Home and the Studio Annex building, and visitors are encouraged to browse through the studios and watch the artists at work. River Oaks also hosts over 20 exhibits annually, which feature works of local, regional and resident artists. Art classes are available on site for both adults and children. River Oaks is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and a professional staff. It is supported by membership dues, corporate donations, grants through the City of Alexandria, GAEDA, Louisiana Division of the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts and local foundations.

Due to Louisiana State Revenue Acts 25 and 26, a 5% state sales tax must be charged for the following:
- Sales of admission tickets by Little Theater organizations
- Sales of tickets to musical performances of nonprofit musical organizations
- Tickets to dance, drama or performing arts performance sponsored by domestic nonprofit organizations
