The Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Public Safety will host Emergency Preparedness Training on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Two very important training classes will be taught on the main campus:

Preparedness 101 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 am
Learn how to put together your Family Preparedness Plan. Topics include: Home preparedness, teaching your children to be safe, how to interact with police officers, and situational awareness.

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
2 hours Georgia POST credit will be given for this course

Would you know what to do if a gunman threatened your workplace, a shopping mall or your church? The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events course provides strategies and guidance for surviving an active shooter event.

Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, the role of professional guardians, civilian response options, and demonstrates examples of things to do in case of an active shooter event. This potentially lifesaving program is open to the public and will address what individuals need to know to look out for their individual safety.

Please note: the presentation contains realistic material and reenactments that some attendees may find graphic in nature. Discretion for sensitive audiences is advised.

Secondary Response to Active Shooter (Police only) 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
4 hours Georgia POST credit will be given for this course With mass casualty and active shooter incident happening on a more consistent basis it is vital that secondary responding units understand their role in these incidents. When seconds make the difference of life or death knowing fundamental principles and best practices will save lives and preserve vital evidence.

This course will also will explore after action report that have been produced by the FBI and other law-enforcement agencies on how secondary responding units made a difference or hindered the process. We will explore how agencies have responded to these incidents in the past and how tactics and techniques have developed with most recent incidents.

This course is restricted to active Law-Enforcement officers, Public Safety officers, EMS and fire personnel. No civilians will be allowed in the course.
