The Center for Catholic Studies is pleased to offer the following courses through the 2024-2025 year. All classes held at the Diocesan Chancery, 1201 Ryan Street in Lake Charles:
Introduction to Bioethics
Instructor: Sister Mary Benedicta Maier, RSM
Tuesdays 6-7:30pm, Oct. 15-Nov. 19, 2024
An introductory course in Bioethics, the science which determines whether health care practices and treatment of life are morally good or evil. The course will begin with an introduction to the philosophy of the human person, understanding how the human person is a body-soul unity. Then participants will learn about basic bioethical principles so that they will know how to judge human acts as good or evil. Students will have the chance to apply these principles to case studies.
Christian Anthropology and Theology of the Body: Basic and Advanced
Instructor: Jennifer Prather, MTS
Saturdays, Sept. 28 9am-1pm (Basic) and Oct. 26, 2024 9am-3pm (Advanced)
Anthropology is the study of humans - what does the Church teach about the meaning of being a human person? These courses, taught by Jennifer Prather, MTS, will give you an entirely new perspective on Adam and Eve, Original Sin, and modern life.
Jennifer is a high school teacher and, throughout her classes, she offers valuable insight into how to approach young people about these issues.
This class is now offered free of charge. Please contact the diocese to RSVP: cassie.meaux@lcdiocese.org or 337-439-7400 x200. You must RSVP at least 2 days before the event.
