The YWCA of Alexandria-Pineville has been in operation since 1946. For over 70 years we have been helping women, children and families in Central Louisiana. The YWCA is proud to operate at 2 locations to serve our community. We are located at 5912 James Street (behind ASH) and 1831 Turner Street. We offer multiple programs to meet the needs of our community.
Programs we offer:
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
Girls on the Run is an Affiliate Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 200 councils across the United States and Canada.
YW-Teens is a service and leadership organization for girls in grades 6-12. YW-Teens advocate partnerships with local schools and the community to provide service and to support new and innovative programs. We have the longest running, most successful YW-Teen Program in the country.
YW-Buddies Mentoring Program
This program is designed to match children with a positive role model. It allows the volunteer to provide guidance through a one-to-one relationship and assist in the positive growth of the child. Studies have shown that a positive relationship during these critical formative stages in a child’s development can make a significant difference in the child’s ability to reach his or her own potential.
YWCA Working Women’s Wardrobe
Provides free work appropriate clothing to women in need. Open the first Saturday of each month at our Turner Street location. This program helps women feel confident as they interview and begin new employment.
After School Program
Designed especially for children ages 4-12 years old, children in this program have a safe place to go after school. Arts & crafts, games and snacks are all part of the daily schedule. We have a counselor in the homework room to help the children with their homework daily.
Summer Day Camp
Designed especially for children 4-12 years old, children in this program can expect to have a summer filled with fun! Arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, weekly field trips and swimming are all part of the summer activities. Children are divided by age and gender. Friday finales take place each Friday with activities including Carnival Day, Water Day, Air Band and much more! We provide over $10,000 in scholarships to struggling working parents.
YWCA Swim Lessons
Swim lessons taught at a variety of levels. The classes are open to children 3 years and older. They are taught by certified Water Safety Instructors and are offered at both of our locations.
Our gym at our Turner Street location offers an Olympic sized pool, a therapy pool, a workout area and basketball courts. We also offer yoga, pilates, zumba and more group fitness classes. We are a proud Silver Sneakers partner.
