The mission of the Arts Council of Central Louisiana (ACCL) is to fund, promote and produce the arts in the Central Louisiana region. To fulfill this mission, the Arts Council produces quality performing arts series, including the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers and A-Town Evenings, a monthly, cabaret-style concert series. In addition to these series, the Arts Council participates in South Arts’ Dance Touring Initiative, whose goal is to enhance the presentation of modern dance and contemporary ballet for presenters and audiences. In 2016, the Arts Council presented New York’s Parsons Dance as part of this initiative.

As part of its mission, the ACCL also conducts arts outreach programs to benefit the Central Louisiana community. In 2017, Spencer Bohren, an A-Town Evenings performer, played two concerts for veterans at the VA hospital. In 2016, Parsons Dance company performed two school shows, performing for 1,251 local schoolchildren. In addition, both Parsons Dance and Tami Lee Hughes (a concert violinist) held master classes, giving students a chance to train with professional performers.

The Arts Council is also an active participant in Alexandria’s festivals. The ACCL hosts ArtFête during Alex River Fête and the Multicultural Village during Alex Winter Fête. The ACCL hosts its own festival, ArtWalk, each October. ArtWalk features over 80 art vendors, food vendors, and a stage with local talent.

The Arts Council of Central Louisiana manages two theatre spaces, Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center and the Hearn Stage at the Kress Theatre. Both theatres are home to numerous local and regional performers.

ACCL runs TicketCentral, a nonprofit ticketing service that promotes and sells tickets for local events. In 2016, TicketCentral sold over $30,000 of tickets to local plays, concerts, fundraisers, and more.

Finally, the ACCL administers a number of grants. The Louisiana Decentralized Arts Fund (DAF) makes the arts available in every parish in the State of Louisiana by providing grant funding for artists, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and local government agencies. ACCL administers this grant to an 8 parish region in Central Louisiana, including Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Winn, Vernon, and Rapides parishes. In Fiscal Year ’17, ACCL regranted $47,660 to 19 arts organizations in these parishes. ACCL also administers the Martin Grant through the RoyOMartin Foundation, re-granting $15,000 in Fiscal Year ’17 to nonprofit organizations in Rapides Parish.
