Frances Eleanor “Mother” Smith opened Casa Colina in 1938 as a direct response to the polio epidemic that was leaving thousands of children with no hope for a productive future. Having significantly improved her own medical conditions through therapeutic rehabilitation, she committed herself to treating these children with innovative therapies and improving their quality of life.
The Mother Smith Circle of Giving fund honors this dynamic woman, who set a benchmark for patient care that Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Healthcare continues to uphold more than 80 years later.
One of the ways we do so is through free and subsidized care for patients who need our specialized services but cannot afford them. When you become a Sustaining Member of the Circle of Giving, you increase access to Casa Colina's life-changing services for all who require it, regardless of their ability to pay.
